KDPS holds regular, friendly competitions across the year for its members – they are totally voluntary, and some members enjoy the competitive element very much but there is no pressure, and many members choose just to watch!
The programme of competitions is adjudicated and appraised by external judges from the Midland Counties Photographic Federation, the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, the Royal Photographic Society and local clubs. Constructive comments are made on each entry and members often find it helpful to listen to the advice on presentation, composition, style and content given by the judges. League and Trophy competition winners receive awards at our end of year Presentation evening.
Our club caters for all levels of photography and our competitions are split into three categories so that members’ work can be fairly judged. New members share samples of their work with the Selection Committee and agree with them which group they’d like to compete in:
Novice, Intermediate & Advanced.
There are annual League competitions for Prints and Digital Images plus one-off Trophy competitions on subjects such as:
A Trio of Images (the Miller Trophy)
A Panel of four Prints
The Creative Image and
our Webby Award (themed around Science and Technology).
We also compete at county level with our President’s Cup against four local clubs, as well as inter-club competitions against our neighbouring clubs, and we continue our tradition of competing internationally against American and Australian camera clubs near to the towns of Kettering Ohio and Kettering Tasmania.
Please see our Programme page for a full list of our competitions, and the results of competitions below. Members can log in to the Members Only section for more detailed information on competition rules, image sizing, deadlines and so on.
