Sunil Doshi

I am a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Kettering General Hospital since 2004. I have always had an interest in light and lenses, ever since I was introduced to it in Physics when I was 12 years old. I had my first serious camera contact when we did a Himalayan Trek in 1988, and really enjoyed taking pictures with that automatic fixed focal length point and shoot camera. However, using film was expensive business in those days and then as education took precedence, my hobby lay abandoned for a bit. Recently, from 2011 onwards, I rekindled my hobby with the purchase of the Nikon D5100 camera, which was excellent. However, I had not had much of an education in photography and most times the camera was used in the Auto mode. I used it for a number of years, then moved on to the Fujifilm APSC Mirrorless system in June 2019. This changed my whole outlook to photography, as I could see the possible final image through the EVF before I hit the shutter button. Then, of course, after going through a serious GAS episode over many years, I have finally settled on two camera bodies - the Fujifilm X-T5, and the original kit lens XF 18-55mm f2.8-4.0. I like the Fujifilm ecosystem, which makes the whole kit very easily portable, so I have a camera with me at all times. If the camera is in the cupboard, it is not taking any pictures! For the more "computational" type of photography - Live ND, High Res, Astro and sports and wildlife, I have now the OM systems OM1 Mark II, with the Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8 lens, the 14-150 f 4.0-5.6 and 75-300 F 4.8-6.7 lens.

I have been educated  in photography by the University of YouTube, and then put into practice using my gear. I felt it necessary to be part of a friendly society where I could meet people like me, discuss about photography, learn about competitions, all with the aim of ultimately improving my photography skills. I joined in October 2022, and I must be making some progress, because on 23/01/2023, in the first DPI competetion of the year, I submitted four images and got two 20s and one 19!
